Pont Neuf and Pont des Arts from Île de la Cité

next
Pont Neuf is the oldest and most famous bridge in Paris, inaugurated by Henry IV in 1603. At this time, the bridge was still unsecure (some people fell from the bridge), but "Sa Majesté fist réponse, qu'il n'y avoit pas un seul de tous ceux-là qui fussent roy, comme luy." (the King replied that none of them were King like him) (from Pierre de l'Estoile, Journal).
It was the first bridge without buildings. Yet, many small businesses, charlatans, comedians, liers and robbers used to stand here and swindle the passers-by.
